Busy bee!

MX-003

I am busy to say the very least! People don’t really get how much work goes behind the Brisbane Zombie Walk so when I say tell them “Sorry, I’m too busy this week, I have zombie walk stuff to deal with” they seem to think I am just copping out. Honestly, this isĀ  a BIG deal and it’s taking up a huge amount of my time. It’s not just a case of saying “This is where and when it starts and finishes” and then just turning up and having fun. There is so much to deal with, from organising the permits to have the walk happen at all, getting Public Liability Insurance (god this was a huge deal), getting advertising, getting donations for the Brain Foundation (our chosen charity), dealing with our local city council, getting the after-party sorted, advertising, dealing with dozens of emails everyday, doing interviews for various media outlets etc etc. Meanwhile we hadn’t even thought about our costumes for the walk, which we’ve only just managed to finalise now (a few days before the walk, which is obviously nerve-wrecking).

The walk is this Sunday so if you’re in or from near Brisbane PLEASE come along because a lot of my blood, sweat and tears have gone into the walk this year and I want it to be a HUGE success. Besides, what else could be happening in Brisbane on a Sunday worth checking out over the Brisbane Zombie Walk???

Brisbane Zombie Walk announcement

Friday, August 21st, 2009

zombiewalk

It took a while but I finally found motivation to get into organising this years Brisbane Zombie Walk. This years walk has been a LOT harder to organise and I got a bit overwhelmed with it all and found it hard to get excited about the whole thing. Then all of a sudden I got extra-motivated today and am finally able to concentrate on making it AWESOME this year!

All announcements are made on the zombie walk website (which has a fancy new layout thanks to Kim) but for the record this years zombie walk is on SUNDAY 25TH OCTOBER. It’s going to have the same sort of structure to last years walks, we’ll start from Roma St Parklands and finish off in Fortitude Valley. We’ll be taking part in this years Valley Fiesta as well (details to come soon) and there will be TWO after-parties! This years walk is a charity event, with all proceeds going to the Brain Foundation (hell yeah for apt charities, eh?)!

We’re having a fundraiser partyas well on Saturday 3rd October but we’re still finalising all of those details. Keep checking out the Zombie Walk website for all the details as the happen!

Weekly Wrap 25/05/2009

Monday, May 25th, 2009

***

Given my appalling couple of weeks, I figured it’d be nice to wrap up my week – just the nice stuff that happened and have stuck in my mind.

Spending lots of time with my mum and getting stuff done / Doing a lot of exercise and feeling like a million dollars afterwards / Changing my eating habits and losing a few kg’s as a result / Seeing real-life macaws and hundreds of wild kangaroos on a unexpected bus trip home / An unplanned day off work that did me wonders / Fantastic news after a lot of bad / A bunch of flowers greeting me at work / Finding money while cleaning and having an amazing meal and seeing a film for FREE as a result / Excessive tea consumption / Silver platforms / Delicious perfume on sale / Finding amazing false lashes and nail decals for CHEAP / New Livejournal layouts that suit me far too well / Magners Cider / Singing bad pop music as loud as I can at work (without getting into trouble) / Anticipating my first ever hypnotherapy session…

This week is going to be so much better. I have a few interesting things to look forward to, like my first ever hypnotherapy sessions. I’m getting it to help my food-obsession, but I’m mostly excited about the whole idea of it, a friend got it done recently and said the experience was unbelievable, plus it worked! I’m going to something called a “Leadership Breakfast” through work on Thursday morning which sounds a little bit fancy and totally delicious. My mum got her loan approved which means she can move into her new house and not stress so much! This was what caused at least 40% of my stress lately so it’s a HUGE relief for us both.

I hope everyone else is having a good week too :)

Bad news about the Zombie Walk

Friday, March 6th, 2009

We’ve had a major setback with the Brisbane Zombie Walk, and its future is not definite at this stage. When arranging the date of the walk with police I found out the walk can no longer be classed as a “peaceful procession” and is not classed as a “special event” which means we must pay for the cost of the police presence we are required to have. Unfortunately this is probably going to mean a few thousand dollars, not including the public liability insurance we will also need. Needless to say we cannot afford that. BUT we are also not quitters and are looking into ways to raise money so that the walk can continue this year and for many years after. It will mean we have to push the date of the next walk back a fair bit, and are thinking of having it in October to coincide with World Zombie Day which would give us plenty of time to cover all the costs for the walk.

So now we need to arrange a kind of “board of directors”, people who are willing to help with the organisation of the walk and any events or activities we’ll be putting on for fundraising in the coming weeks and months. We’d also appreciate any suggestions or feedback from people as well.

If you do have any thoughts or would like to be a part of the team, flick me an email: zombie@brisbanezombiewalk.com

New site! Sort of…

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

This site isn’t new at all, in fact I’ve had it a while now. I’ve just been pretty slack about doing anything about updating it or even visiting it. But that is going to change! My livejournal no longer feeds here, which means this page will only be relevant stuff (not the inane crap I talk about on LJ). I am going to start updating all of the content, making it current and great, which is the exact opposite of how it is now. Keep watching!

In other news, we are in the process of organising the next Brisbane Zombie Walk which we anticipate will take place at the end of April. Nothing is confirmed yet so I can’tr give any more details then that. But it will be much better than last year (not that last years walk wasn’t fantastic, but we have more time to organise everything to the finest detail and cover all bases which we weren’t able to do last time). For more detailed info on the walk (past and present), please visit www.brisbanezombiewalk.com!
