Nailin’ It – 3D Melbourne Bling

I just spent a super long weekend in Melbourne, something I have every intention of blogging about in EXTREME DETAIL. But until I get all the photos together, edit them and collect my thoughts (I am still so, so tired) I thought I’d quickly post about my nails since it’s been AGES and because I got some pretty fancy ones down while I was down there!

Unfortunately this is the best photo I have on hand right now so you’re just going to have to imagine how much pinker and sparklier they are. We went to a salon called Modern Nails in the CDB that my friend Mia had heard about because they do proper, 3D nail art. I chose the design from one of the massive Japanese nail art magazines they had, which was no small feat as they has SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM! I kept gravitating back to this one so I decided that was a good enough sign that I should get it.
As it turns out, getting someone else to do nail art is very expensive. This cost me over $100, and even though it included getting a refill and a gel top coat I was a bit unimpressed by the cost. BUT on the flip side I learned a LOT from the experience and now have more ideas about how to do my own nail art in the future, since I’ve really slacked off on it in the last year or so. For example, I’d never been game to attempt to sponge on nail polish but now I’ve seen it first hand, it’d a piece of cake. Likewise I now have a good idea of how to create acrylic flowers and am excited to try that out ASAP!
Hopefully this design will last at least two weeks as Mia will be up in Brisbane then and it’d be neat if we cou;d show them off still. Speaking of Mia’s nails, here’s her design (so cute):
