StyleTread shoes

A friend of mine pointed me to StyleTread today, which was very convenient as it was only this morning that I looked upon all of my shoes strewn across my bedroom floor, I thought about how badly I need some new, interesting shoes to mix things up a little. I have so many shoes, we’re talking about 50 pairs, but I tend to be a bit samey with a lot of them. Black patent? Pink leather? Sequined flats? I have heaps of ‘em. I guess I tend to just go for what I’m used to, often without really thinking about it. But I need a change! As I browsed through their hundreds of goregeos shows I came across a few that are unlike what I currently own but are still very “Ruby Velour”.

First off is Leo by Diavolina in Black. I love the suede, the wood and the studs. Three sexy textures in one shoe! The heel is just thick enough so I know I would be able walk in these without too much stumbling and the thick sole means enough padding my feet won’t be ready to fall off at the end of the night. Oh and they have grip! Oh how I love the thought of heels with some grip! They are so simple, but definitely not boring. I have about a dozen LBD’s I could team up with these. They’re just $139.95 too.

OK so allow me to explain… I love the 1920s very passionately. I love the fashion, the art, the music and the decadence of the roaring 20s. I swear I was a flapper in a former life, visiting speak easy’s, getting drunk on bootleg liquor with my long pearls, short hair and low-backed dress. I absolutely adore in these shoes (Louisiana by I Love Billy in Black/grey) and would wear them with so much. Just because they look like they’re from the 20s, doesn’t mean you can only dress like you’re from the era when wearing them. Because of the colours you could wear them with just about anything. Personally I have a few black and white dresses that would look outstanding with these and at $89.95 I may well just have to get them.

And now for the totally ridiculous! Please welcome Faya by RMK in black! I was only talking to a fiend recently about the ghetto fabulous boots that used to be around in the early – mid Noughties. These are by far the most ghetto-fabulous yet completely wearable type I have ever seen. They’re hiking boots, with sexy heels. Aaaah it’s a match made in heaven for me. So impractical and fun, I think these would look amazing with black skinny jeans. I honestly don’t know what I own that would suit these, but I am sure I can work something out! The brown ones are also very special. These babies are $189.95.

Ruby Movie Reviews – Part 1

I love movies. I go to to see them all the time and prefer going to a cinema than downloading them and watching them at home as I love the whole experience. As such I’m not sure why I’ve never really bothered to review any of the films I go and see. I thought I might change that though and give you all a little run down of the films I’ve seen lately. I’m definitely not a film critic, in fact I am very easily pleased and find most film reviews kind of boring by getting too deep and intellectual about everything. I’ll keep mine shot and sweet and avoid spoilers as much as possible.

BLACK SWAN
I wasn’t sure what to expect because of all the hype about this film. First and foremost I was more than a little bit curious about the alleged lesbian sex scene between the two main characters, after all both actresses are very attractive and it’s not something you hear much about in Hollywood (except for the occasional girl-on-girl kiss). I was quite surprised by how the film turned out. It was implied that Mila Kunis was the antagonist and was playing mind games with Natalie Portman when all along it was Natalie Portman just being crazy as hell. I loved that little twist, and I loved the end sequence when she goes nuts during the Black Swan routine and then the demise of the White Swan. Ahhh, I love crazy lead female characters.

TRON
I hate to admit it, but I was kind of disappointed with this film. I loved the look of it (I was delighted by how the 3D only kicked in when he was in the game) and though the costumes were amazing but aside from that, it was kind of dull. I really need to watch the original again, I can’t even be sure if I’ve ever seen it in full, because I’m sure there was a lot I missed as a result of my ignorance. It was a little bit too complex at times and there absolutely could have been more action. I loved the character Quorra, as she has the best haircut ever (I am seriously contemplating getting it myself) and was all round very cute and sweet, but they could have probably developed her character a bit more. I’m still considering dressing s her for Supanova though ;)

127 HOURS
I only just saw this and really liked it. Admittedly I have a soft for for James Franco, but I really think he did an awesome job. For a film where the character is trapped by a rock for most of the film, a surprising amount of stuff happens. I’ve done a little bit of reading up the film and am happy to hear the real Aron Ralston not only loved the film, but said “the film is “so factually accurate it is as close to a documentary as you can get and still be a drama.” I’d be pretty chuffed about that if I was Danny Boyle (the director who also did Slumdog Millionaire). The scene where he cuts off his arm is realistic but not as graphic or sickening as I expected. Definitely cringe worthy though! Go see it if you haven’t already.

My Simple Pleasures

After writing about the things that scare me the other day and because I am off sick from work and need cheering up, I thought it would be nice to list all of  the things that bring me intense pleasure. You know, the simple things that most people don’t even bat an eyelid over usually. I’m also not talking about sexual stuff, this ain’t that kind of blog ;)

Tell me about the simple pleasures that fill you with joy.

Music on My Mind – I like it Gay

Photo from Cazwell.com

I accidentally stumbled upon an unknown treasure trove of music the other day. It all started with this song Cotton candy by Amanda Lepore:

At first I was all “What the hell is this and who is that woman with the massive boobs and lips” but then I looked her up and was fascinated by her story (this interview is great, she explains what surgeries she’s had to go from a man to this Jessica Rabbit/Marylin Monroe lookalike). The song itself is so damn catch, even if she’s not exactly a very good singer. The clip is also amazing, I would have a clip almost exactly like this if I could! The colours and the style, oh my!

From there I discovered Cazwell who is a white, gay rapper from new York who is close friends with Amanda Lepore (she’s in most of his clips as well). I love the fact he raps about being gay and has some of the sexiest men in his clips. As a red-blooded woman there’s nothiong much better than good looking men with amazing bodies dancing and writhing around in a music video. It’s pretty much the complete opposite of the standard rap music video and I love it.  This one is my favourite:

His other songs are great too, especially I Seen Beyonce at Burger King and if you want to see some good lookin’ men in next to no clothing then you must check out Ice Cream Truck. Apparently Lafayette played one of his songs in an episode of True Blood which makes me love his music even more (and also True Blood for working Cazwell in). I aim to buy his album “Watch My Mouth” ASAP!

From there I finally checked out Raquel Reed’s music videos:

I hate to admit it, but I’ve been a closet fan of hers for years. I used to try and hate her because I hate efagz like Audrey Kithing and Hannah Beth but it looks like Raquel Reed has some talent and let’s face it, her style is amazing and super cute. Oh to be that slim and wear what she wears! So the song itself is pretty cool though the distortion in the music kind of overwhelms her singing. from what I can tell from her 2nd single Do It Dirty she’s actually a decent singer. But the thing I love the most is the film clip. Ahhh how much do I love her style and colour choices. Shame her other song The fast Lane is such utter balls. Hopefully she will break away from the efagz mold and get better and better.

Meet Lily

I would like you to meet my mum’s new dog, Lily. She’s a very new addition to the family as mum only got her last Thursday. She was rescued from the floods up near Grantham and no one claimed her so a lady from the SES took her home hoping to find a new home for the little girl. Mum heard about her and was allowed to “trial” her for a few days (the lady who found her had grown quite attached, but wasn’t able to keep her).  It was immediately apparent this is one amazing little dog and so it looks like she will be a permanent member of our family.

She’s very loving, well-behaved and absolutely tiny! We don’t know how old she is but we suspect she’s had pups and is fully grown. We also don’t know what type of dog she is but she looks like a mini foxie x cattle dog (god knows how that rendezvous came about). She can be a little bit timid, especially around men, so there’s  chance she may not have been treated very nicely at some stage, but that’s all in the past baby!

Oh and in case you’re wondering about her poodle Beau… well he sadly has to go back to the RSPCA. He had acute separation anxiety which meant he tore the house apart and/or found a way to escape out of even the smallest cracks the moment mum left his sight. It was sad as he was quite a sweet dog when he had company, but mum has to work and she really did get an older dog to avoid that sort of thing. I hope he managed to find a good home with owners who could commit to making him better with his medication and training.

So please welcome Lily into our lives. I will possibly keep you updated on how she goes, with as little crazy-dog-lady obsessing as possible ;)

And the Douche of the year is…

I am sick to death of hearing about Charlie Sheen. If it’s not in the news, it’s all over my damn Facebook feed. Charlie Sheen the party animal, at it again. He does drugs, parties hard, has sex with lots of women and he’s a famous actor. I have disliked the man for a few years now and I totally blame Two and a Half Men for it. My god, that show is such utter balls, I don’t understand how so many people actually like it so much. It’s about an alcoholic douchebag, his neurotic retard of a brother and a fat turd of a kid with the worst hair cut of all times. Then I realised the character Charlie Sheen is playing isn’t so much a “character” as Charlie Sheen just being himself on the small screen. Ugh!

If I see one more status or tweet about how great it would be to go out partying with Charlie Sheen, I will scream and probably not hold back with my anti-Charlie Sheen rants. I can only imagine that if friends of mine who are smart sorts of people think he’s a top bloke, then there are lot of brain-dead dickheads out there who think he’s the best thing to have happened in the entire history of mankind.

If you think Charlie Sheen is great and think it would be great to go out partying with him, allow me to remind you of some painful truths about the man. He is addicted to drugs. He pays for escorts to party with him. He is a misogynist who is extremely violent towards the women in his life. He is in his mid-40s and acts like he’s 20. The dude gets paid obscene amounts of money to play himself on TV and then gets his stupid arse busted by going on a bender and locking a women in a closet while he smashes up the room. Now he’s in rehab and is costing the show hundreds of thousands of dollars because they’ve had to halt production. And yet those stupid TV exec wankers just keep putting up with it. Why? because morons everywhere think he’s “livin’ the dream”. Check out this little fact I found on a celebrity facts site:

“A little known fact about Charlie Sheen is, he was subpoenaed to testify in the “Hollywood Madam” Heidi Fleiss trial in 1993. Sheen testified he called on Fleiss’ call girls on a regular basis spending more than $50,000 on their services. Reportedly, Sheen was a Cocaine addict at this time.”

Wow, what a classy gent. How about the fact he “accidentally” shot his then-fiancee Kelly Preston in the arm in 1990 and has been accused of/charged with assult on all of his former girlfriends/wives. I’m not quite sure why these women willingly get into a relationship with this man, but I guess “Charlie Sheen mania” pulled the wool over their eyes til he beat it right off  ‘em again. He’s been arrested for drug use and possession and sent to rehab a bunch of times, he OD’s after injecting himself with cocaine and almost died and yet never seems to have learned a thing. But why would he, he’s “the man” and keeps getting work and never has to serve any real time.

He is not “living the dream” and he’s not “the man”. He’s seriously troubled and is only getting away with it out of sheer luck and because he’s rich and famous. If he wasn’t who he is and was poor and living on the streets like the typical drug addict, would everyone be so keen to party with him then? Do you think those addicts you see dancing to music no one else can hear are awesome party animals? Do you want to spend a wild night out with them? Of course not. Money apparently makes miserable sacks of crap more appealing. Yuck.

I’m sure I’m going to get a tonne of angry comments from boon’s who think he’s the greatest. I don’t care because I am sick of how he’s worshiped like a god when he ought to be behind bars. If a normal civilian like you or me did half of the shit he’s done, we would be in jail and looked down on by the rest of society. Do yourselves a favour and stop acting like he’s cool. You’re just condoning the actions of a violent and pathetic man who has to pay women to hang out with him and will probably die from an overdose in a hotel room at the age of 50.

Music on my Mind – Part Five – XTINA

This is some bold new territory for me. You see, I have never really been a fan of Christina Aguilera’s music. I never minded her that much, it was more that damn warbling she did in her songs that infuriated me. I kind of liked her feisty attitude and the fact she didn’t seem to give  damn. But her music mostly drove me nuts. I hated her pin up phase, it was way to cutesy and clean-cut. To me the real XTINA is Dirrty. Man that is a great song and an amazing film clip.
So I was pretty ashamed at myself for now checking her song “Not Myself Tonight” out sooner. In fact I’d only heard a cover version of it in one of my gym classes and had no idea who it was actually by. I am really impressed by it, she’s back to being her sexual self and it’s a really sexy clip. I know at first it seems a bit Lady Gaga-ish at first but more than anything it reminds me more of one of the sexiest film clips of all times “Human Nature” by Madonna.

I was shocked to realise I barely even noticed her warbling, which is usually all I can hear in her songs. It’s about time she showed off the rest of her voice instead of just relying on that damn 90s white female singer cliche. Well done Christina, you’ve gone back to what you’re good at and you look absolutely amazing doing it!
